Being eco-friendly is at the forefront of everyone’s mind. From recycling to reducing carbon emissions, people have started to make a real effort when it comes to saving the planet. It’s important that we start to teach our kids about these things too – after all it will be them inheriting the planet after us. If we’re paying attention to this issue in our daily lives then consider some eco-friendly travel this summer. What better way to teach the kids about saving the environment than on the road?
Portable water bottles are a fantastic idea. Not only are you saving plastic by not buying bottles from shops, but many water bottles have built-in filters that add nourishing minerals to sustain your body on a hot day. Many places are now adopting filling stations where it’s possible to fill up a water bottle with clean filtered water for a few pence – this is both cost effective and environmentally friendly. It’s a great first step and as many of the bottles now have designs for kids it’s easy to get them on board.
When you’re travelling with children it’s inevitable that you’re going to end up with lots of food wrappers and other bits of rubbish to throw away. Instead of throwing them in a bin, why not keep your litter in a bag and at the end of the day pay a visit to a recycling bank and encourage the kids to sort the recycling themselves?
Eco friendly accommodation is something that might not be considered immediately, but is certainly worth looking into. There are numerous resources online that list eco-friendly hotels, B&Bs and guest houses. Be sure to research them thoroughly as it’s not always easy to define which places are environmentally friendly.
