One of the biggest reasons people pursue land travel is to support eco-friendly adventuring. But arriving at our destinations doesn’t mean the eco-friendly efforts should come to an end. Part of keeping the efforts going includes making sure that a stay is made to be as easy on the environment as possible. There are several ways people can use eco-friendly ideas when staying at resorts. Here we take a look at a few.
The first tip to use is, of course, to take a look at the transportation used for getting to a spot. Try to head out to a resort by bus or train if possible. These methods of transportation don’t pollute as much as air travel would. Overland travel is becoming increasingly eco-friendly, so take full advantage. Oh, and it’s also usually cheaper!
Another idea is to buy refillable bottles of sundries and bathroom items instead of buying travel size items. Bottles that are easy to reuse for later purposes always work better than bottles that are often supplied at resorts but are quickly thrown out. Reusing bottles is a great way to cut down on plastic waste.
There’s also the need to watch for how linens are handled at a resort. Try and see if there are any markers that can be used to state to the housekeeping staff that the linens in a room do not have to be washed or replaced. It’s also a good idea to use a standard where certain bath towels can be placed in a spot where the housekeeper will know to take them out while leaving some towels intact. This is used to reduce the energy needed for cleaning linens while also conserving water at a resort.
The Resort Members Association is another resource for tips when staying in a resort, like making sure that the thermostat features in their rooms are carefully controlled. This means that the thermostat should only be adjusted to a comfortable temperature when a person is in the room. The thermostat can be turned up when leaving the room in the event that the climate is warm or down if the climate is cool. By making sure to turn the thermostat up or down (respectively) while out and about at your destination, you cut way down on the energy used to heat or cool your room.
It’s always a good idea to take a look at reusable bags as well. Reusable tote bags are great to bring along during resort trips, because they allow the shopping fanatics among us to cut down on plastic bag waste that’s just going to end up in the trash after our trip. The need to store all of one’s purchases in reusable bags is always a good idea to take a look at.
It’s also important to avoid trying to use any room service features. The problem with so many room service features is that they use disposable materials when getting foods delivered. It’s better to just enjoy the experience of a restaurant.
The final tip is to use a digital camera when taking photos. Disposable cameras might be convenient but they are difficult to recycle. A digital camera to use at one’s home is always a better solution anyway judging by the quality of the photos that can come out of one of these cameras.
These ideas should be used by tourists when traveling at resorts. They can make a trip more enjoyable without having to risk anything on the environment.
